It’s about to snow again in Colorado, and that brings White Out conditions to mind. Many of you may have already seen the video of two Blackhawks crashing at Snowbird resort in Utah on February 22. I’m attaching it below for those who haven’t – its a stark reminder of what can happen if white out training and techniques are not applied when flying close to fresh or deep snow. Luckily everyone survived these accidents. There are two primary techniques to use when landing on a loose surface (snow, sand, dust), and they are both explained in detail in the article linked below. It’s well written so I won’t reinvent the wheel! Check it out and keep the mindset – every approach is a “go-around with the option to land”. This applies to so many situations – even if technique isn’t perfect, as long as your go-around threshold is low, it will generally keep you out of trouble!
